This zoom sequence stars with a view of the Milky Way. We zoom in towards the crowded central region, in the constellation of Sagittarius (The Archer). By shifting to an infrared red view we see through the dusty clouds in this direction and get a close up view of the objects orbiting the supermassive black hole that lies at the centre of the Milky Way. The final views show the motion of a newly-discovered gas cloud that is falling rapidly towards the central black hole.
Speak out against pseudoscience. Astrology does not represent any accurate description of the world we live in. The notion that position of the sun at the moment of your birth somehow affects your personality not only raises some very serious questions about free will, but it is fraud and there is no evidence in its favor. Almost everyone has been indoctrinated with the alleged characteristic of their star sign; they identify with something false about the universe. It is so weird and stupid, almost dangerous.
In actuality, we are a part of the cosmos but not in the trivial way pseudoscience would have you believe, but in the deepest ways. We are under the influence of a star, our sun! It warms us, drives our weather and makes all life possible, and the sun is only one of several hundred billion just in our galaxy. Speak out against pseudoscience!
This book, The Hidden Reality by Brian Greene is one of my current reads. It goes through 12 different hypotheses on the shape, size and scope of the universe(s). 100 years ago people just thought that the “universe” was everything that we knew about: the Milky Way, some distant fuzzy nebulae and our solar system. I guess the universe isn’t what it used to be! The book is completely speculative, almost fanciful, but covered ideas on parallel universes that might exist. It just underlines the point that humans are completely insignificant.
